Choose the package for your operating system.
Packaged FloCafe releases include the application runtime. You do not need Docker or Node.js unless you are developing from source.

Windows
Use Microsoft Store for the simplest update path.
- Open the FloCafe Microsoft Store listing.
- Select Install and launch FloCafe after completion.
- Complete the owner setup and note where backups will be stored.
- Connect the exact receipt and kitchen printer queues.
- Run the first-order and backup tests before live use.
Windows printer note
FloCafe sends raw ESC/POS output. If a manufacturer driver rejects or garbles output, verify the queue uses the winprint/RAW print processor or test a Generic / Text Only queue.
macOS
Use the App Store or signed direct release.
- Install FloCafe from the Mac App Store, or download the signed DMG from GitHub Releases.
- Launch the application and complete owner setup.
- Allow required local-network access if using a KDS or second device.
- Confirm CUPS printer queues are enabled and run Test Print.
- Create and restore a backup before production use.
Changing distribution channels
Create a manual backup before moving between an App Store and direct-download build. Confirm the new installation sees the expected database and printer configuration before removing the previous build.
Linux
Choose AppImage, deb, rpm, or Snap.
Use the package native to your distribution when possible. AppImage is portable; deb suits Debian and Ubuntu; rpm suits RPM-based distributions; Snap provides a confined installation.
Debian / Ubuntu
Install the downloaded deb package with the system package manager.
sudo apt install ./flocafe-*.deb
Snap
Install from Snap. Connect raw USB manually if a confined build cannot access the printer.

First launch
Do not load the entire restaurant first.
- Create and secure the owner account.
- Configure restaurant identity and a verified tax rule.
- Add five common products and one difficult modifier set.
- Configure one receipt or KOT printer and run Test Print.
- Place one dine-in or takeaway test order.
- Verify the kitchen, receipt, payment, and report totals.
- Create a backup and restore it on a test installation.

Node.js is required only for contributors.
Install Node.js 22 or later, then clone the repository. Run npm install followed by npm run dev. Production restaurant users should normally choose a packaged release instead.

Which FloCafe installer should I use?
Use the Microsoft Store on Windows or Mac App Store on macOS for the simplest managed installation. Use GitHub Releases for direct installers and Linux packages. Developers can run from source.
Does FloCafe require Docker?
No. FloCafe is distributed as a desktop application for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Docker is not required for a normal restaurant installation.
Will updating delete restaurant data?
Application data is stored separately from the installed application, and FloCafe creates a pre-migration backup. Still create and verify your own backup before every production update.
